I am a die hard exercise junkie and I have to get my fix each and every day. If I ever have a day when I’m not feeling like training, I have a few things that motivate me. I always have my dog staring me down and nudging me to take him to the park, so I always have him to drag me out of a funk. Whenever I am in this mode my favorite thing to do is listen to my iPod to try and try to get pumped up.
I just pop my ear buds in, and focus on the music for my source of inspiration. Its really a great way to get in the zone when your having trouble turning it on. A big problem I used to encounter on a regular basis was a cluttered and disorganized iTunes library distracting me while I was training. Things like duplicate tracks and unknown song names can really be a pain with iTunes and fixing the problem manually can be an almost insurmountable task.

My iTunes library consists of about 50,000 songs so fixing them manually would probably have taken me weeks to complete. I have tons of other stuff going on in my life and I don’t have much time for things like going through each one of my songs an editing them by hand. Between school and everything else going on its difficult to find much time for recreation these days so I’m always trying to cut down on busy work.
Things were no different with my iTunes troubles and my journey for an solution lead me to a nifty little program called Tidysongs. The program really made things easy for me and wound up saving me tons of time. What would have been hundreds of hours of work was turned into to an afternoon with Tidysongs.
When all was said and done I only had about 75 songs left that the program couldn’t identify and it only took an hour or so to fix them. Thats right, out of approximately 50,000 songs there were only 75 songs left that TIdysongs didn’t completely restore back to order. Now 75 is definitely a number that I can deal with in my spare time.
I don’t ever want to be in the gym about to go in for a lift and have a repeat song come on again. Nothing throws my focus of more and it makes me want to throw my iPod at the wall. Every time this happens I would have to stop for a second and change the song, which can really be a pain.
If I have my iPod in the arm band thing than I have somewhat easy access to it but I still have to take my mind of the task at hand, which is focusing on the lift. Sometimes I would just have my pod in my pocket and I would have to dig it out before I could even change the song. The problem gets even worse when you throw “unknown” songs or anything labeled “track01″, “track02″ in the mix. When this would happen I couldn’t even find the song I was looking for half the time and I would spend more time dicking around with my iPod than actually training.
The point of this all is to try and remove all outside distractions when you are working out. Leave your cell phone in your locker, tell your buddy to shut up and stay focused on your workout no matter what, and definitely don’t let a cluttered iTunes library get in your way. My advice is to take care of the problem before it gives you any more trouble, it really won’t take you long with the help of Tidysongs and you can download the trial version if you’re skeptical about the program delivering.
